Guidelines and Minimum Standards for Posting Internships on ClevelandIntern.net

Employers who have legitimate, quality internships are eligible to post them on this site.  Legitimate internships are ones in which a student works either on a specific project of importance to the organization or is assigned specific duties and are experiential, structured learning opportunities. The intern must receive timely instruction and feedback from the supervisor and must be able to have a mentor-like relationship with someone in the organization who can teach the student both about the organization and about the industry as a whole.  The ClevelandIntern.net Database Administrator will judge the quality of the proposed internship(s).  Employers will be contacted by phone or email if clarification is necessary prior to approval.

Employers who are not eligible to use this site include: *third party recruiters, *temporary agencies and home-based businesses. Employers using private homes as places of business will not be approved to use this service.

Once your registration has been approved and you have received your Username and Password by email, you can log in to the Employer Center to post your positions.   On the Employer Center homepage, you will see a yellow button labeled User Manual- click that link to access the detailed guide for using the site (each time any changes to this manual are made, the date under the link will change – if your copy is before that date, print a new one and discard the old one).  Outlined below is some general online posting information and guidelines:

  • Once your registration has been approved you will receive access instructions and a username & password. At that time you may login and enter new internship postings online.

  • It is essential that you provide a descriptive position title.  For example; instead of INTERN or SUMMER INTERN,  use titles like MARKETING INTERN or SUMMER EDITORIAL INTERN.  The title is first thing that applicants see and its strength or weakness can determine whether or not a student will view your job posting or move on to the next employer's offerings.

  • Equally as crucial is the Job Description.  Your job description should be viewed as a marketing tool that is the starting point to attracting top candidates.  With that in mind you can see why it is important to provide a complete and detailed description of the internship.  Especially important is to outline what the student can expect to learn.   Click HERE to see what a good job description can do for you.

  • Each internship title must have its own internship listing. However, advertising for multiple openings for the same internship position is considered one listing.

  • Salary levels that you expect to pay for the internship must be listed, as well as specific desired and/or required skills and education (i.e. completed coursework, labs, certifications, etc.). If the internship is UNPAID, this must be stated (students must be able to earn credit for unpaid internships; each member school will have their own guidelines/requirements for course credit).  Commission Only internships (i.e. salary is 100% commission) are NOT eligible for posting on ClevelandIntern.net and will NOT be approved.

  • To discourage unqualified applicants and streamline your screening and selection process, you must specify any desired and/or required characteristics, skills, and/or education in the 'Job Requirements' section (i.e. completed coursework, labs, certifications, citizenship, prior internships, etc.).

  • The desired application methods must be specified (you may make multiple selections from the methods listed). Keep in mind that in order to electronically track and receive resumes of applicants, you must select one or both of the 'APPLY ONLINE' methods.

  • Uploading your company logo and inserting hyperlinks to your website are encouraged/preferred (HTML formatting is accepted).

  • It is the responsibility of the employer to ensure that postings are closed when an internship position has been filled. A request to close the internship may be submitted by email to the Database Administrator for ClevelandIntern.net: bdavis-smith@noche.org, or the employer may logon to the system and close the internship themselves.

  • Posted internships may be listed for the standard periods of 30, 60 or 90 days, or you may specify an application deadline date. At the end of the selected period, the internship will close automatically. Employers will receive an **automatic email notification as the internship deadline approaches, and another after it has expired.

  • The employer MUST report placement information to ClevelandIntern.net when a posting is filled by a student who was hired through this service.  To report placements, call the Database Administrator at (216.420.9200 x223) or email (bdavis-smith@noche.org) and provide the student's name, school, position title, start date and salary if paid.  This data is extremely important to the success and continuation of this FREE internship posting service.  Your cooperation is anticipated/appreciated.

*3rd Party Recruiters and Temporary Agencies may post listings for positions WITHIN THEIR OWN ORGANIZATION ONLY (postings for clients will NOT be approved).

**Employers are notified via auto-email as internship application deadlines approach and again when a position has expired.  You will then have the option to renew or re-post listings, or allow them to expire.
