Guidelines and Minimum Standards for Posting Internships
Employers who have legitimate, quality internships are eligible to post them on this site (all postings must be for an actual internship versus a full or part-time JOB). These postings must show evidence of an experiential, structured learning opportunity for the student. A ClevelandIntern.net program manager will judge the quality of the proposed internship(s) prior to approval. Employer will be contacted if clarification is necessary prior to approval.
Employers who are not eligible to use this site include: third party recruiters, temporary agencies and home-based businesses. Employers using private homes as places of business will not be approved to use this service.
ClevelandIntern.net works only with employers who subscribe to EEO guidelines, and who abide by the principles set forth by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), which are available online at http://www.naceweb.org/principles/principl.html.
Once your registration has been approved and you have received your Username and Password by email, you can log in to the Employer Center to post your positions. On the Employer Center homepage, you will see a yellow button labeled User Manual- click that link to access the detailed guide for using the site. Outlined below is some general online posting information and guidelines:
-
Once your registration has been approved, you will receive access instructions and a username & password. At that time you may login and enter new internship postings online.
-
It is essential that you provide a descriptive position title. For example; instead of INTERN or SUMMER INTERN, use titles like MARKETING INTERN or SUMMER EDITORIAL INTERN. The title is first thing that applicants see and its strength or weakness can determine whether or not a student will view your job posting or move on to the next employer's offerings.
-
Equally as crucial is the Job Description. Your job description should be viewed as a marketing tool that is the starting point to attracting top candidates. With that in mind you can see why it is important to provide a complete and detailed description of the internship. Especially important is to outline what the student can expect to learn.
-
Each internship title must have its own internship listing. However, advertising for multiple openings for the same internship position is considered one listing.
-
Salary levels that you expect to pay for the internship must be listed, as well as specific desired and/or required skills and education (i.e. completed coursework, labs, certifications, etc.). If the internship is UNPAID, this must be stated, and you should specify whether you require that students receive credit and/or transcript notation for unpaid internships and/or if you are willing to work with schools where applicable (each member school may/will have their own guidelines/requirements - work with the student on specifics.)
-
To discourage unqualified applicants and streamline your screening and selection process, you must specify any desired and/or required characteristics, skills, and/or education in the 'Job Requirements' section (i.e. completed coursework, labs, certifications, citizenship, prior internships, etc.).
-
You must specify what the student will be exposed to and what s/he can expect to take away from the internship experience. Remember, these are not part-time jobs but experiential learning opportunities!
-
Uploading your company logo and inserting hyperlinks to your website are encouraged/preferred (HTML formatting is accepted).
-
It is the responsibility of the employer to ensure that postings are closed when an internship position has been filled. A request to close the internship may be submitted by email to info@clevelandintern.net, or employers may logon to the system and close the internship themselves. Please remember to report the PLACEMENT DATA if you hired a ClevelandIntern.net applicant (there is a link in the Employer Center).
-
Posted internships may be listed for the standard periods of 30, 60 or 90 days, or you may specify an application deadline date. At the end of the selected period, the internship will close automatically. Employers will receive an automatic email notification as the internship deadline approaches, and another after it has expired.
-
The employer MUST report placement information to ClevelandIntern.net when a posting is filled by a student who was hired through this service. There are several ways to report placements: respond to the auto-email you receive prior to internship expiration; by email to info@clevelandintern.net ); or log in to your account, scroll down and click the ‘Placement Tracking for Employers’ link on the Employer Center main page and complete the form. This form allows you to easily provide the required data. Placement data is extremely important to the success and continuation of this FREE internship posting service. Your cooperation is anticipated/appreciated.
